About Us

Established in 1937, Belga Films S.A is the oldest film distributor in Belgium placing it among the oldest European and international studios alongside Gaumont, Pathé, Paramount or Universal Pictures.

In 1950, the company was run by Luc Hemelaer who sealed partnerships with the most renowned producers, gradually turning the company into one of the country’s leading distributors of French and international pictures such as: Le Dernier Métro, Papillon, Emmanuelle, King Kong and Cyrano. while successively diversifying in TV distribution and Home Entertainment.

In 1998, under the helm of Patrick Vandenbosch, Belga Films joined media giant ‘RTL Group’ to extend its activities throughout Benelux with the unmatchable support of media campaigns. This strategic alliance enabled Belga Films to consolidate its position on the market being entrusted with the distribution of the biggest independent franchises (Twilight, Taken, Hunger Games and more.). Over the years the market shares have grown allowing it to become a leading independent distributor and key partner within the Benelux audio-visual scene.

In 2022, Independent Films, a prominent Dutch distribution company, became fully integrated into Belga Films after over 20 years of successful collaboration. This acquisition allows Belga to expand its presence in the Netherlands, merging Dutch film development and distribution into a single, streamlined operation. With this move, Belga can now release films in both Belgium and the Netherlands, while also boosting opportunities for Dutch-language content.
